Grade 5 Students and Technology

Students in grade 5 continue to expand their writing skills

with editing, use of the Internet for research,

creation of the student newspaper, ìThe Inquirer.î

Presentations such as student web sites or reports are created

from projects using Microsoft PowerPoint,

the Electronic Encyclopedia, AppleWorks, and HyperStudio.

This art project was created from researching artists on the Internet.
The student had to create a final report,
prepare storyboards,
download pictures from the Internet and
sequence the frames using HyperStudio.

All fifth grade students complete a 
HyperStudio stack 
before the winter recess.
5th graders also did a study of the
stock market. 
They were given $1000 to invest and 
track their stock. 
This report reflects two weeks 
of following the stock, and keeping 
a record as he 
made money on the stock.

A group of 4th and 5th graders worked on the first Disney web site. 
They learned HTML and created web pages like the one below.

Below is a portion of ìThe Disney Inquirer,î the student newspaper. 
Students wrote and edited the articles, formatted the articles, 
and then prepared and distributed the newspaper to all students.
