Grade 4 Students and Technology

Walt Disney Elementary School, Burbank, California

Students in Grade 4 begin to work on formal reports and essays

using the encyclopedia and the Internet for research.

Formal editing is stressed.

After final writing is developed students publish and format their work,

adding voice, pictures, and sound.  Keyboarding continues to be emphasized.

The following is a HyperStudio presentation and description of the process.

This is the title page from ěParker and Pennyî
story recreated in HyperStudio.
The original drawings for this creative story were imported by the student into HyperStudio
and "painted."
The student started this HyperStudio stack
by writing her story,
editing the drafts and preparing a final copy.
After writing the story, the student had to divide her story (a process called storyboarding)
create illustrations for each story board
and then re-create or synthesize the project
in HyperStudio.

This student's writing was recreated
into a visual  presentation
that involved far more thinking
than the original writing.
