Walt Disney Elementary School, Burbank, California

In Grade 1, students continue to work on beginning reading and writing skills.

Technology provides a wonderful format for practicing these skills.

A simple acrostic can provide a means of not only
practicing basic writing structure
but also practicing keyboarding
and basic formatting.
Students in Grade 1 studied various artists
and their styles and then
applied these styles
to their own writing and illustrations.
Grade 1 students also work
on poetry
and creative use of words.
Grade 1 teachers often use pattern writing
to reinforce the skills of the writing process.
This project was completed by Marcus
early in the school year.
This extensive writing project completed
by Marcus in May illustrates how much growth
he achieved in developing his writing skills
from the previous project
Marcus added these illustrations on the art
of Matisse to his writing project.
Grade 1 students enhanced the writing projects they completed on
various artists through using technology.
