Dear Internet Visitor, Luther Burbank Middle School is a California Distinguished School serving slightly more than 1000 students and providing a high quality academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular experience for all students. A variety of special programs, including Gifted and Talented Program and special education classes, are offered in addition to the regular school program. Our program provides a foundation and series of experiences for personal and academic growth. The school facilities consist of ten buildings, which include a library, an auditorium, and a gymnasium and locker room. The surrounding campus includes a large grass athletic field, an asphalt-topped play area and green belts, and landscaped areas throughout. The school is air conditioned and attractive and located in a residential area in the north west area of the City of Burbank. The school has a strong Parent, Teacher, Student Association that is augmented by an excellent volunteer program. At Luther, our motto is "Creating the Future," and the academic emphasis is apparent. Our school colors are yellow and bright green, and our mascot is the Yellowjacket. Students are well-behaved and demonstrate respect for each other as they participate in a variety of before and after school and evening programs that enrich their school lives. Supportive parents and neighborhood augment the strong school program, providing direct and financial assistance. Student attendance is high, and promptness is required. The dress code is strictly enforced, as is the school safety code. Luther offers students a place to learn and grow. All students take part in a challenging academic program and are allowed a variety of elective choices. All students are enrolled in English, social science, math, science, and physical education. Seventh and eighth grade students complete their schedule by selecting an elective. This year we received a 3 year grant to provide an afterschool program of academically based enrichment activities including a daily homework club. The program operates daily Monday through Friday from after school until 6 p.m. It is funded to serve 100 students. We invite you to visit our school and see for yourself why we have earned our reputation for high academic standards and a friendly, supportive community of students, parents and staff.
