Dear Internet Visitor,

Welcome to Burbank Adult School, often noted as the best kept secret in Burbank." Having served the community for over fifty years, the Burbank Adult School offers a wide variety of programs to adults ages 18 to 98! The Burbank Adult School strives to be a place offering opportunities for life-long learning. The goals of the program are to assist adults in becoming effective participants in the democratic society--to be self sufficient, to strengthen and enrich home and family life, and to provide individuals with the preparation necessary for the demands of our ever-changing economy. The Adult School staff maintain open lines of communication with the elementary and secondary schools in Burbank to promote articulation among the levels, linking the programs from education of parents of pre-school children through enrichment and general interest courses for senior citizens.

The challenge for the Adult School administration and staff is to stay on top of what is needed by the adult population in the way of learning opportunities. A recent example is our Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) program, which trains adults in computer/business skills, provides them with support services, and assists them in job searching and obtaining employment. With the changes taking place in the welfare system, we are currently preparing to bring on board additional vocational programs and pre- and post-employment skill training components which will assist welfare recipients in training for and obtaining employment.

We are also in an outreach process with local businesses to discover their computer training needs and to attempt to meet them. We have two computer labs and offer computer applications courses which use Windows 95 and Professional Office.

The staff and I invite you to drop by and visit and/or pick up a schedule of classes. We are sure that there is a course offered that will spark your interest! If you have any questions or need any further information or have courses you would like to suggest, please call us.
