Teacher of the Year 1999

Mrs. Linnea Hance began her career at Jordan Midddle School as a sixth grade English/Social Science core teacher and then joined a seventh grade team as an English teacher. Currently, she teaches 7th and 8th grade English and has during the past 5 years, also taught 8th grade Social Science. Linnea relates well to a diverse student population as she successfully modifies work for all students, from her GATE class (Gifted and Talented Education), to her RSP collaboration students, to her SDAIE students (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English).

Linea has contributed professionally to a wide variety of school and district endeavors. She currently serves as Jordan's SDATE (Safety, Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Education) Coordinator and the District's SDATE laison between the state of California and Burbank's school sites. She is a member of Jordan's Site Safety Committee, sponsors the cheerleaders and flag squad, and is our current faculty chairperson. Additionally, she updates and coordinates Jordan's site master plan, and she is presently chairperson of the district's Salary Advancement Committee. Recently Linnea has been active on Jordan's S.I. (Site Improvement) Committee, has been a member of the PQR (Program Quality Review) Leadership Team, and acted as the Technology Co-Coordinator. She helped align the district's middle school English curriculum to the state standards, participated on the team that authored the middle grades School-To-Career curriculum, and also served on the district's language arts textbook selection committee.
Academic
Rodeo

In 1998 and 1999,David Starr Jordan competed in the Academic Rodeo. The first round of competition was at the county level; each year Jordan earned the first place and the right to compete at the state level. In 1998 Jordan won the state championship! The following year, Jordan was second place in the state. The Jordan team was composed of sixth, seventh and eighth graders and the competition included general knowledge questions and a spelling bee.

National
Academic
League

Jordan participated in the National Academic League in 1998 and after several rounds of competition was named the state champion. The four-round competition consisted of general knowlege questions and an oral presentation, and Jordan was represented by sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Unfortunately, the state of Washington team defeated the team in the next level of competition.
