MISSION
Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School is committed to encouraging the students' development of the abilities needed to succeed in an increasingly complex information society. We realize that understanding how to organize, analyze and apply information is one of the most important skills we can teach our students if they are to succeed in our global, information-based society.

We will integrate technology into curriculum, instruction, and management to accomplish our goals.

BELIEFS
• All children can learn interpersonal communicative skills
• Success and self-esteem go hand-in-hand
• High standards and expectations result in quality performance
• Students must be prepared to be productive citizens
• Quality education is the result of the cooperative effort of educators, parents, and the community

LUNCH PROGRAM
Cafeteria lunches are available every day. The regular price for a lunch with milk is $1.50. Lunch tickets for 20 lunches are available for $30.00. They may be purchased in the school cafeteria (cash or check only. No bills larger than $20) from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. each day. We encourage parents to buy these lunch tickets not only because of the savings but also because it is easier for children to handle the ticket rather than cash.

Some pupils are eligible for "free" or "reduced-price" lunches under the National School Lunch Program. Application forms and information concerning eligibility are available in the school office.

The school has no funding available to provide lunch money for students who have used up their lunch tickets or who have lost or forgotten their money. They will be allowed to call a parent to ask them to bring lunch money.

LEAVING SCHOOL DURING SCHOOL HOURS
Pupils will be released from school only to authorized adults during school hours. Any student leaving school early for a doctor or dentist appointment must bring a note stating the time the parent is Picking them up. The parent should then come to the office to sign out the- student at that time. The child should not be sent to the office until buzzed for. No child will be allowed to walk home during school hours.

ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL
When a student is absent or tardy for any reason, he or she must bring a note to the teacher giving the reason for the absence or tardiness. If a student has been absent for five (5) consecutive days, including weekends and holidays, he or she must be readmitted through the office.

If the student has been excluded for pediculosis (head lice) or chicken pox, the parent must have the child checked by the School Nurse, either at this school or at the closest school where the nurse is in attendance on that day. The school office can direct the parent to the nurse's location in this situation. The nurse is scheduled to work at Stevenson every Wednesday.

MEDICATION
No medication is given at school without a note from the doctor stating wh at the medication is and how it is to be given. The medication must be in the container dispensed by the pharmacy. Any medication to be given during the school day must have an "Authorization for Medication" form on file in the office.

TELEPHONE CALLS
Students will be allowed to use the telephone in the office for extreme emergencies only. They will be allowed to call for lunch money and to call if they are detained after school for more than ten minutes for disciplinary reasons. Parents are urged to make all after-school plans with pupils before pupils go to school. This will eliminate problems of calling and leaving messages for pupils at the office.
