Guidelines and Rules
All guidelines and rules of the Burbank Unified School District apply to all our students. Additionally it is important to stress the following:

  • Graduation requirements are the same at Monterey High School as they are throughout the district. Students must complete 220 credits (147.5 credits are in specific areas of study, 72.5 credits are elective).
  • Attendance is monitored daily. Students are expected to be in class every day and they are expected to be on time.
  • Students are not to leave campus once they have arrived at school, Monterey is a closed campus.
  • Student behavior is expected to reflect respect for self, for other students as well as to demonstrate respect for the adults on campus. Profanity is not allowed. Incidents of fighting, sexual harassment or threats of either will be handled in a consistent and serious fashion. Weapons or facsimile weapons are not allowed on campus. Possession, purchase or sale of alcohol, drugs or drug paraphernalia is forbidden. Students who are on campus under the influence of drugs or alcohol will also be subject to school consequences. Burbank Unified School District has adopted a policy of zero tolerance.
  • Students will be expelled for misbehavior which involves weapons and illegal substances.
  • Student dress code is consistent at Monterey as at all Burbank Schools. Students must be attired in clothing that is appropriate for school. Oversized clothing, baseball caps and metal belt buckles are not deemed appropriate for school. Additionally, clothing should adequately cover the student; crop tops, short shorts and tank tops are not allowed. Underwear should not be visible. All students must wear shoes to school.
  • Books may be issued to students after they have established regular attendance. Because of the transiency of our students, we are unable to issue every student a book for every class. Students will always be issued work to complete at home if they desire it.
  • Grades are issued by individual report cards every time a student successfully completes a contract. At the end of each semester, parents will be sent an entire transcript to review overall students progress. Parents are encouraged to call us whenever they have a question regarding student progress.
Organizations and Clubs
Monterey ASB welcomes all students as participants. In order to be eligible, students must complete ten units of credit per quarter and maintain excellent attendance and behavior. This group sponsors all student activities including spirit week as well as student assemblies.

SAPID (School Aged Parent and Infant Development) is a program for pregnant minors and parenting teens . This program affords these students an opportunity to complete their education at Monterey High School if they would like to participate. We have child care available on campus for the children of our enrolled students. Students enroll in a parenting class and must spend one period per school day in our infant care center in addition to four classes in our academic program. Group counseling is offered to these students on a weekly basis.
