Our School

George Washington Elementary School is located in Burbank, California. George Washington was built in 1927 and was recently painted in the appropriate and patriotic colors of red, white and blue. Washington is one of the first Burbank Unified schools to be modernized.

The K-5 student body of 700 is ethnically and culturally diverse. A symbol of the unity within diversity is the school's successful adoption of uniforms, the first in Burbank to do so. A mainstream program for Deaf and hard of hearing students, done in conjunction with TRIPOD, exists on the campus including six classrooms of hearing and hearing impaired students grades K through 5.

Washington also has a unique Environmental Garden which encourages hands-on science, recycling and environmental awareness. Activities in the garden are integrated with all areas of the curriculum. Students at Washington incorporate technology in all areas of the curriculum through activities and projects developed in our Computer Lab. Our 4th and 5th grade students participate in the Accelerated Reading Program using Macintosh computers in their classrooms.

Washington recently earned the designation of a California Distinguished School and the coveted Golden Bell Award. Students at Washington learn in an environment of rich academic and educational experiences.
